World Water Monitoring

Phillipe Cousteau asks "How Well Do You Know Your Water?

In answer to that question, water monitoring performed by students all over the world is collected and published at the World Water Monitoring Challenge website.  The WWMC is supported by EarthEcho International and many other organizations.

Students at New Lothrop will be monitoring again in the fall of 2016 to help provide data for this initiative.

The Mistrust of Science

2016 California Institute of Technology Commencement Address - The Mistrust of Science

I read the commencement address about the mistrust of science at the link to an article in the New Yorker magazine (below) and thought the speech did a great job suggesting how to recognize and rebut pseudoscientific claims.

Origins of the wiki

I was reading on the wiki site Appropedia this evening and happened to search Wikipedia for the term "wiki". At the end of my search I watched a video of Ward Cunningham, the programmer who is attributed with creating the wiki in 1994, discussing the evolution of user-editable websites used for collaboration on the internet. Mr. Cunningam is soft spoken and I gained a valuable understanding of the purpose of wikis by watching the video.
